Amy's proposal to meet a woman in a bar turns out to be fruitless, so he makes use of the pact between Howard and him (see season 3, episode 5) and Bernadette introduces him to one of her friends. But this turns out to be too boyish and does not correspond to Leonard's ideas at all. Meanwhile, Sheldon panics because Amy wants to introduce him to her mother and he misinterprets this as a sign of her desire for a "real" relationship. He tries by all means to avoid her, but the whole thing turns out to be a misunderstanding, because Amy just wanted to pretend her mother was having a "real" relationship.
