The Great War is the ninth studio album by the Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton . It was released on July 19, 2019 and will be released through Sabaton's record company Nuclear Blast . The recording work began exactly 100 years after the end of the First World War - on November 11, 2018. It is the first studio album that was created and recorded together with Tommy Johansson . Thobbe Englund , who was a member of the band until 2016, has a guest appearance in the song Fields of Verdun. There he plays the electric guitar solo.

The album deals with the First World War.

The first single for the album Fields of Verdun was released on May 3, 2019. The second The Red Baron on June 14, 2019. The third single was announced on June 24, 2019 via Sabaton's official Twitter channel that Great War - the main song for the album - will be available from June 28, 2019.

Via the YouTube & Patreon channel Sabaton History , the band published videos in advance on the topics from their songs, which illuminate the background of the individual songs. These are created in collaboration with the historian & comedian Indy Neidell and Timeghost .
