Attero Dominatus is the second studio album by the Swedish heavy metal band Sabaton . The Latin name of the album is supposed to mean "destroy tyranny", but it is grammatically incorrect. As with Primo Victoria , it is a concept album , the lyrics of which include themes from various wars, among others. a. from World War II , treat. The album reached number 16 on the Swedish album charts.

Emergence

As with all Sabaton albums, singer Joakim Brodén composed the pieces. On the basis of his demo recordings , the pieces were arranged collectively during the band's rehearsals. Then Brodén and bassist Pär Sundström wrote the lyrics. Originally, the album should appear as part of Primo Victoria as a double album, about half of Attero Dominatus' songs were already finished. This project failed, as did the simultaneous release of both albums due to the financial resources of the band's record label at the time . In terms of text, the group deals in several pieces with topics from the Second World War. Attero Dominatus is about the battle for Berlin , Nuclear Attack is about the atomic bombs being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Rise of Evil describes Hitler's " seizure of power ". The text of In the Name of God deals with the Islamist terror of Osama bin Laden , while We Burn reports on the Balkan war from the perspective of Slobodan Milošević . Further topics are the trench warfare in World War I ( Angels Calling ) and the Falklands War ( Back in Control ). Light in the Black is supposed to pay tribute to the UN blue helmet soldiers . The last song on the album Metal Crüe is the only piece that is not about war themes, the lyrics consist mostly of names of different metal bands.

The album was released on July 26, 2006, and on January 29, 2008 it was released on the North American market. After Sabaton was signed by Nuclear Blast , a re-release of the album was released on September 24, 2010 . In the first two weeks after its initial release, more than 5,000 copies of the album were sold. A music video was shot for the title song in Umeå by Owe Lingvall , drummer for the band Nocturnal Rites .

Lars Strutz from powermetal.de also emphasizes Brodén's vocal performance and says that the album is more melodic overall than its predecessor Primo Victoria .
