The Guard Post - The enemy is the darkness (AKA: GP506 ) is a South Korean horror film by Kong Su-chang from 2008 . He plays on the border to the demilitarized zone (DMZ) on the South Korean side.

action

Sergeant Major Noh Seong-Gyu is called to sentry post GP506 at the DMZ. There soldiers of the military police found a blood-smeared comrade who stood with an ax in a room in the midst of a multitude of corpses and let himself be arrested laughing without resistance. Noh, who has just lost his wife, should investigate the incident quickly and without fuss, since the guard is under Yoo Jeong-u, the son of the army chief. Noh has only one day from his superiors to investigate the incident. When he arrives at the post shortly afterwards, the man with the ax is in a coma .

Noh starts the investigation with Sergeant Yoon and finds the dog tag in a piece of birthday cake in the blood-smeared room that identifies the perpetrator as Corporal Kang Jin-won. In the meantime, the guard's doctor (called Doc ) wants to have the 19 corpses removed. At the same time, Kang is said to be taken to a hospital in an ambulance . Noh is irritated because a guard post is usually manned by 21 soldiers. He has the corpses counted again, but then releases them for removal. The convoy doesn't get far. Heavy rain has made the only road impassable and the convoy has to return to the sentry post. Noh has the site searched again and, during his further investigations, finds that all of the ammunition was deposited in the armory. However, at the guard post it is mandatory that the soldiers must be armed at all times. Shortly afterwards, the soldiers find another survivor who turns out to be Yoo, but refuses to give any statement. Noh is urged on the phone by a supervisor to have Yoo removed from the guard immediately, but Noh refuses - after all, he has been given until the next day to investigate the incident. Yoo has meanwhile returned from the hospital room to his office, put on his uniform again and tried to destroy personal notes. Noh can stop him at the last second and has him arrested.

Meanwhile, Yoon finds a video camera that shows fragments of a recording. In addition to sequences with an exuberant birthday party, Kang can also be seen there, who, with a disfigured look, indicates that he wants to kill all comrades. In conversations, Noh and Yoon find out that strange things had happened in the guard post in the past few hours. A patrol does not initially return to the post. When you want to look for them, they return distraught and completely exhausted. However, Yoo reported to headquarters that everything was fine. Nevertheless, there were occasional attacks between the soldiers, which shortly afterwards they could no longer remember. Noh realizes that the post has been infected by a deadly virus and finds telltale pustules on some of the soldiers . He separates them from the others, but those affected refuse to surrender their weapons. There is an exchange of fire in which victims are to be lamented on both sides. Noh realizes that the virus can only be stopped if the entire crew of the post dies. He closes the system and begins to distribute large quantities of kerosene in the system. The remaining soldiers, however, do not want to indulge their fate. They cover their rashes under camouflage in anticipation of a rescue team and chase Noh through the basement. There is another exchange of fire in which Noh and other soldiers die. A single soldier survived the firefight. He snatches the key to the facility from Noh and wants to flee. Meanwhile, more soldiers have arrived outside because Noh has not reported and his time is up. The soldier opens the door, but realizes too late that Noh has placed an explosive charge on it. The entire facility is destroyed by a huge explosion.

The final scene shows the complete recording of Kang on his video camera. Kang knows everyone is infected with a deadly disease. He warns possible rescue workers of the disease and indicates that he will now kill all comrades. Shortly afterwards he goes into the lounge from the beginning of the film with a birthday cake and opens fire on his comrades.
