The Heroic Legend of Arslan ( Japanese ア ル ス ラ ー ン 戦 記 , Arusurān Senki ) is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Hiromu Arakawa based on a story by Yoshiki Tanaka . It is based on the series of novels Arslan Senki , which has been published in Japan since 1986 and was previously adapted as a manga and anime . An anime television series was also published in 2015 and 2016 for this more recent implementation.

The series is about the young Prince Arslan von Pars, whose father lost the throne through betrayal. The neighboring country Lusitania now occupies the capital Ekbatana and the mysterious prince with the silver mask reaches for the throne while Arslan hides. Together with his servants Elam and Daryun and General Narsus, he wants to drive out the occupiers and take on his father's inheritance. During their fight they are joined by the priestess Falangis and the musician Gieve. While Arslan is looking for an ally in Prince Hodir, to whom he also has to make concessions, his enemies are also divided and the prince with the silver mask is also planning against his former allies in his own interest.

The series has been published by Kōdansha in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine since July 2013 . The chapters have also been published in ten edited volumes so far. The volumes sold around 400,000 to 500,000 copies in the first few weeks after publication.

A German translation has been published by Carlsen Manga since October 2016 in nine volumes. In addition, an English version is at Crunchyroll published online, a French by Kurokawa , a Spanish by Norma Editorial and Chinese by Tong Li Publishing .

Anime adaptation

An adaptation of the manga was made by Liden Films from 2015 under the direction of Noriyuki Abe based on a concept by Makoto Uezu . The Sanzigen Animation Studio was also involved in the first season. The scripts were written by Makoto Uezu, Kōjirō Nakamura and Tōko Machida . The character design was done by Kazuo Watanabe and Ushio Tazawa and the artistic direction was by Tadashi Kudo .

The first season with 25 episodes was shown from April 5 to September 27, 2015 by MBS in Japan. Universal Studios produced an English dubbed version and released it on DVD, while Funimation Entertainment released the anime via streaming . Wakanim streamed a French version, which was also shown on Mangas TV , and Canal + Series showed a Spanish translation. Subtitled versions were published via streaming from the Viewster platform, also in German .

The second season with eight episodes was shown from July 3 to August 21, 2016 by MBS. This part was also streamed by FUNimation Entertainment and Wakanim.
