The Long Road Home is an eight-part US miniseries from 2017. The series, based on an idea by Mikko Alanne , was based on the US journalist's book The Long Road Home: A Story of War and Family , published in 2007 Martha Raddatz .

It premiered on November 7th through December 19th, 2017 on the National Geographic Channel . The German premiere was shown on the National Geographic Channel, the FOX Channel and Sky 1 from November 16 to December 28, 2017 .

After the official end of the war in Iraq on May 1, 2003, Iraq is still occupied by US and British forces eleven months later . The Long Road Home shows the events of the first Cavalry Division of the US Army , which in one on April 4, 2004 ambush in Sadr City , a district of Baghdad , came. In addition to the fighting in which eight US soldiers were killed and over 60 wounded, and the rescue mission, the series also deals with the fate of families before, during and after the events at the unit's home base in Fort Hood, Texas .

Background and production

In November 2015 it was announced that the National Geographic Channel was working on the adaptation of Martha Raddatz's bestseller The Long Road Home . The production, planned as a miniseries, was finally released in July 2016. In March 2017, alongside Michael Kelly , Noel Fisher , Jeremy Sisto and Patrick Schwarzenegger , Kate Bosworth , Sarah Wayne Callies and Jason Ritter were announced as actors .

Cast and dubbing

The German dubbing was done at EuroSync GmbH in Berlin under the dialogue direction and based on the dialogue book by Christian Gundlach .
