In October 2017, NBC announced that the series would be discontinued after four seasons.

The series follows the lives of the staff working the late night shift in the emergency room at the San Antonio Memorial Hospital. Several employees previously worked in the US Army . The main characters are the former army doctor and ranger TC Callahan, his former girlfriend Jordan Alexander, who is a temporary shift supervisor , the Army Reserve doctor Drew Alister and the doctor Topher Zia. Other important people are Landry de la Cruz, Paul Cummings, Krista Bell-Hart, Kenny and Michael Ragosa.

Production and broadcast
The series has been produced by Sony Pictures Television since 2014 and is filmed in Albuquerque , New Mexico .
In early July 2014, the series was extended by a second season, consisting of 14 episodes. It has been broadcast since February 23, 2015.
The extension for a third season took place in early May 2015. The fourth season was broadcast in 2017 on NBC. It has been available in German on Netflix since September 22, 2019.
