The Power

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Power or I've Got the Power is a song released and produced in 1989 by the dance group Snap! . The song became a worldwide success. A remix of the 1990 hit was released in 1996 and another bhangra- style remix followed in 2003 .

Music and lyrics

The title was produced by Snap !, written by the Frankfurt producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti using their pseudonyms Benito Benites and John "Virgo" Garrett III . The rap came from Turbo B. (actually Durron Maurice Butler, born April 30, 1967 in Pittsburgh / Pennsylvania ) and the vocals from Penny Ford (but Jackie Harris can be seen in the video ).

The song begins with the somewhat cryptic line in Russian : "Американская фирма Transceptor Technologies приступила к производству компьютеров" Персонaльный спутник "" ( dt. About "The American company, Transceptor Technologies' personal Companion' computers has production started" ). Personal Companion was a computer-like device for the blind and visually impaired, the American company Transceptor Technologies of Ann Arbor in the US -Bundesstaat Michigan brought 1990 on the market. Operated by the user's voice, it could, among other functions, automatically download USA Today news through a built-in modem.

Münzing and Anzilotti published the title on the record label Wild Pitch Records initially with the addition "Power Jam featuring Chill Rob G", but without ensuring that the samples used were licensed. Due to unlicensed samples from the tracks Let the Words Flow by Chill Rob G , Love's Gonna Get You by Jocelyn Brown and King Of The Beats by Mantronix, the track was re-recorded in the USA and the parts of Chill Rob G were raped by Turbo B. replaced. Jocelyn Brown's sample I've Got the Power from the song Love's Gonna Get You of 1985 remained for clarification as a striking vocal in the song.

Charts

First, The Power was a hit in Germany, where it reached number 2 in the charts and gold status. A little later, in March 1990, the song was also number 1 in Great Britain for two weeks, where it achieved platinum status. The top position in the US R&B charts was number 4, on the Billboard Hot 100 number 2 and in the Billboard Hot Rap and Hot Dance Club Play charts the song climbed to position 1. The Power also went platinum in the United States . Status. The remix versions from 1996 and 2003 could not build on the success of the original version.

Agathe Bauer songs

Main article: interrogator

The so-called "Agathe Bauer songs" that go back to The Power have been around for a few years . Allegedly a listener from RTL Radio called the station and asked for the “Agathe Bauer song” because she mistakenly understood “Agathe Bauer” instead of “I've got the power”. As a result, RTL Radio launched the regularly broadcast section “Agathe Bauer Songs”, in which listeners can call and present their listeners.
