Havana Moon is a Rolling Stones concert film, recorded on March 25, 2016 in Havana , the capital of Cuba . The film documents the band's free open-air concert in the “Ciudad Deportiva de la Habana” sports complex with an estimated 500,000 visitors. It was the first rock concert in Cuba in front of such a large audience. The film was released on November 11, 2016 in various formats.

prehistory

The lawyer Gregory Elias suggested to Joyce Smyth, the manager of the Rolling Stones, in a telephone conversation on November 13, 2015, to organize a free concert for the band in Cuba, the costs of which would be paid by his charity "Fundashon Bon Intenshon". To speculations about political motivation, Elias replied that he only wanted to do something good for the Cuban people and that he had no business connections in Cuba.

The concert was planned during the Rolling Stones' 2016 América Latina Olé Tour . When it became known that the then President of the United States , Barack Obama , would be the first US President in 88 years to visit Cuba, the concert was postponed from the originally scheduled date of March 20 to March 25, 2016. Shortly before the new date, Pope Francis tried - unsuccessfully - to postpone the concert again, as March 25, 2016 was Good Friday .

occupation

At the time of the concert, the remaining four members of the Rolling Stones had already been in the music business for over five decades and had therefore already passed the usual retirement age: Mick Jagger (vocals) and Keith Richards (guitar) were 72 years old, Charlie Watts (drums) even 74 and Ron Wood (guitar) at least 68 .

Other musicians included: Darryl Jones (bass, vocals), Chuck Leavell (keyboards), Karl Denson (saxophone), Tim Ries (saxophone, keyboards), as well as Bernard Fowler and Sasha Allen as additional singers. The Coro Entrevoces was on stage as a background choir.
