The Satellite Year is a German band that existed from 2008 to 2017. The group is assigned to the styles of rock , post-hardcore and electro .

Band history

After recording the EP This Is Voltaire in the SU2 studios and mastering it at Sterling Sound, New York, the EP was released digitally on May 16, 2008 via the German indie label Al-Piper Records, distributed by Edel Music . The producer was Ryan Smith , who had worked with Jimmy Eat World and Boysetsfire . This was followed by concerts with bands such as Die Fantastischen Vier , NOFX , Bullet for My Valentine , Silbermond , The Subways , The Rasmus , The Get Up Kids , Die Happy , Bosse , Frittenbude and Dropkick Murphys .

After a line-up change on bass, the single Could You Try to Speak in a Higher Register was produced in the SU2 studios and released on October 18, 2009 via Midsummer Records and distributed by Cargo Records. In January 2010 the single was included in the nationwide rotation of the radio station bigFM .

At the beginning of September 2010 the band traveled to Turin to work with producers Andrea Fusini and Alessandro Vanara on the recordings of the debut album Mission: Polarlights . In February 2011, the band signed record deals with the Japanese label Radtone Music Group, the German indie label Midsummer Records and the UK and US based label Engineer Records.

The debut album Mission: Polarlights was released on April 21, 2011 in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Great Britain and the USA.

In August 2012 the band played a week-long tour in England .

At the end of 2017, the band announced their breakup after founding member Jens Kreuter announced his departure.

Björn Mertz died of a brain tumor at the end of May 2018 at the age of 24. He had previously started the Atlanta Arrival group with parts of the band, who then collected donations for the German Cancer Aid .

Music genre

The Satellite Year played a mix of post-hardcore and electro-pop . The music is very melodic, and partly also poppy . The vocals were clear and melodious, with singer Daniel Rimedio sharing the vocals with keyboard player Andreas Fischer.
