The Shadowthrone is the second album by the Norwegian black metal band Satyricon .

Style & content

The lyrics of the songs are primarily written in English. Three songs have Norwegian lyrics. They all deal with violence and death, but also touch the Vikings thematically.

Musically, the album is based on Bathory and is similar to the previous album Dark Medieval Times , although the concept and the sound have noticeably improved and only a few folk elements are used. The drums play blastbeats , the vocals are mixed softly.

reception

The Shadowthrone has been enthusiastically received by fans and critics.

The album is described as “pure Nordic Black Metal in perfection”, “especially the first song is very cool”.
