The Age of Nero -

The Age of Nero is the seventh studio album by the Norwegian metal band Satyricon . After two singles had previously been released, it was released in November 2008.

Emergence

On August 18, 2008, Satyricon announced that work on the new album The Age of Nero was completed. Joe Barresi assisted Satyr with the production. The album was released on November 3rd, the EP My Skin Is Cold was released on June 2nd and the single Black Crow on a Tombstone on October 20th . In the following months the band toured Europe, America and India.

Satyricon wanted to win new fans with the album, especially in the United States .

Style and content

The Age of Nero continues the mixture of black metal and rock elements that began on the previous albums. The reviewer Yulon Zhu called the style "Black 'n' Roll" based on Death 'n' Roll . sputnikmusic.com thinks this slower style is a return to the first wave of Black Metal. There is also a strong stylistic influence from the three previous Satyricons albums. On the DeathMetal.Org site , however, it is said that the album sounds like "any groove metal with superficial Black Metal treatment".

The lines of text are extremely short. The mostly " groovy " drumming contains some typical Black Metal blast beats , some of which are "inaudible" due to the poor drum production.

criticism

Overall, the criticism was more positive than the previous album. The website chroniclesofchaos.com that the previous album Now, Diabolical , is had strongly criticized that The Age of Nero (in terms of the general stylistic change of the band) quickly makes clear "that the problems are not on the blueprint , but at the Execution lay. ”Roel de Haan from the webzine Lords of Metal also shares the opinion that after the“ weakest album of Satyricons discography ”a stronger one followed. The side DeathMetal.Org however, criticized the music as "mass-market, catchy, mindless rock 'n' roll version of Black Metal", which Euronymous ' ideals and beliefs of the early scene contrary and far was of all that the reviewers and sparked interest in this music for others. There is “no trace of passion” in this music. “This kind of capitalist Black Metal” leads to a genre of its own.
