The Spacelords are a German space and psychedelic rock band from Reutlingen .

history

The band was founded in April 2008 by guitarist Matthias “Hazi” Wettstein, drummer and singer Marcus Schnitzler and bassist Klaus Werz. She has been playing in her current trio with Ekhard Friedrich “Akee” Kazmaier on bass since May 2014. In the early phase, from May 2008 to the end of 2009, the band was a quartet with Holdi Pape on flute.

The first musical sign of life was Spacelords , which was self-published in 2010 as was Dimension 7 a year later . For the debut album , the band signed with Sulatron-records and then switched to the Krefeld music label Ton Zonen Records , where two recordings have been released so far with the live recorded Liquid Sun (2016) and Water Planet (2017). The 2017 album was mainly recorded by the guest musician Didi Holzner (keyboard), the mastering was done by Eroc .

In addition to various concerts and festivals in Germany, the band u. a. in Italy at the “Springtime Party” Open Air in Fordongianus , the “Cueva Rock live” in Cagliari and the “Sound Bonico” in Piacenza .

style

According to the self-description, the band plays “instrumental space / psychedelic rock with stoner , herb and prog rock influences”.

In the review of label debuts Synapse in the progressive rock - Encyclopedia Baby Blue Pages of style as space rock was how he "had in the 70s should sound [...] with fat riffs, spacy Geflirre in the background and gravely sprung rhythm" described. Compared to the first two self-published albums, which took the listener with them on the journey with “even more compact tracks”, the band has switched to “jam-like monoliths in excess length”, according to eclipsed .

The reviewer of Betreutes Proggen described the 2017 album Water Planet in a comparatively compact manner with reference to two well-known names: "Spacerock is played as you imagine the genre (think of Hawkwind and UFO's early recordings)". In a Belgian review, influences of the genres Krautrock and Stoner Rock as well as a flair of Desert Rock were recognized. The three songs themselves have been characterized as "fuzzy, psychedelic and drawn out". Musikreview.de concluded that the album was “more sovereign, more cliché-laden and therefore so valuable space rock with stoner, psychedelic and herb rock flavors especially for all friends of this music branch”.

reception

Regarding the third studio album Water Planet , the reviewer of Rock Hard judged that the band was "at the forefront of the German psychedelic scene, which was still quite vital".
