history

Emily, Jessica and Camilla Staveley-Taylor first performed under the name The Staveley-Taylors at The Horns in Watford in 2010 . The performances of the various groups were announced there on a board on which the sisters had entered their family names. After being called up one evening by the shortened name The Staves, they adopted this short name as the new group name.

The Staves already appeared shortly after it was founded on the published in July 2010 album Praise & Blame by Tom Jones . In the fall of 2010 they performed with the alternative country duo Mt Desolation on their tour of Great Britain. Jessica Staveley-Taylor also worked as a backing singer for the group Mt Desolation. After their first EP releases, they were also featured on Fionn Regan's third studio album, 100 Acres of Sycamore .

In the US, The Staves became known for their joint appearances with The Civil Wars in January 2012. Appearances at the South by Southwest music festival and the "Austin to Boston" tour followed in 2012. In the same year they played with Bon Iver on their tour of the USA and Canada. Her first album Dead & Born & Grown was released in November 2012 on Atlantic Records . It was produced by Glyn Johns and Ethan Johns , who had previously produced the Rolling Stones and Joan Armatrading .

The Staves appeared on British television in 2012 on the renowned program Later with Jools Holland .

reception

The journalist James Christopher Monger from Allmusic described the singing of the three sisters as "clear and elegant". The Staves and their producers know about their ability to create "harmonious, perfect, familiar singing".

SPIEGEL reviewer Tobias Rapp called The Staves in 2013 "the innovator of British folk".

FAZ reviewer Jan Wiele wrote that with their 2015 album, the three sisters catapulted themselves into the harmony cosmos of Crosby, Stills & Nash .
