action

Adventurer and grave robber John Banning , together with his companion Alan and a local guide, plunders the barren grave of the Egyptian high priestess Nefratis . This had acquired magical powers during her lifetime by drinking the "blood of the living". For that she was later punished and walled up alive. The group brings the priestess to life through their outrage, who immediately kills Alan as well as the guide, while John manages to escape with some valuable finds. Nefratis, equipped with superhuman powers, lets John escape at first, but vows to visit him soon and avenge the disturbance.

Arrived in the United States , Nefratis seeks the meanwhile completely derelict John in the US state of California . With the help of a scarab, she makes him her devoted slave , who henceforth helps her to retrieve her stolen treasures that have been sold to wealthy collectors. First she is looking for Dr. Manners up, kills him, steals a relic and escapes without a trace. The police are at a loss and have to remain inactive in the strange murder case. David Manners , the murdered man's son, is searching with a friend of the late father's, Dr. Bill Stewart , Professor Dr. Phillips up. The university professor was the last person the deceased was in contact with by phone. Dr. Phillips, who is considered one of the greatest collectors of ancient Egyptian art and who is also in possession of the other stolen artifacts, is extremely taciturn and does not tell the two investigators about the details.

To find the murderer of his father, David tries to find the seller of the stolen art object. With the help of Helen, the niece of Prof. Phillips, he finally got the name of the drunkard grave robber - John Banning. Since this trace does not lead any further, David and Helen researched the origin of the Egyptian word "Nefratis", which his father wrote on a piece of paper shortly before his death. They learn about a "legend of Nefratis", a cruel, blood-drinking demon who needs a human sacrifice in certain cycles to maintain her life energy. Professor Phillips believes in the myth and soon meets Nefratis with a mixture of curiosity and research madness. However, he becomes just another victim of the priestess who kills him in search of her precious amulet. Shortly before his death, however, the scientist managed to give his niece the relic.

As the new owner of the amulet, Helen is soon visited by Nefratis, who after a short fight takes control of her and prepares her for a solemn ceremony. Meanwhile, David, who is now in a relationship with Helen, is looking for his lover. With the help of Dr. He finally finds Stewart Bannings, frees him from his scarab, so that the grave robber joins David in thanks and brings him to the scene of the religious evocation. The trio then storms the ritual and is attacked several times by Nefratis, who manages to find two customs officers who appear by chance and Dr. Killing Stewart. Banning and Manners finally succeeds in stopping them and apparently liquidating them.

At the end of the film, Helen is freed, David and John leave the scene while the remains of Nefratis move again. What happens after that remains completely open at this point.

Reviews

"Stereotypical adventure film with a few scary effects, staged according to a familiar scheme."
