Theater HORA

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Theater HORA from Zurich is the only professional theater in Switzerland whose ensemble members all have an IV certified " intellectual disability ".

history

The theater was founded in 1993 by the director and theater teacher Michael Elber , who is still the artistic director of the ensemble to this day. In 2002 it became part of the Züriwerk Foundation - since then all HORA members have had permanent positions. In 2005, HORA'BAND was added as the second department under the direction of Roli Strobel, and in 2009 the HORA acting vocational training for people with disabilities under the direction of Urs Beeler. Between 1995 and 2013 the theater also organized nine international cultural festivals - from 2007 under the label OKKUPATION! - in the field of art and disability. Giancarlo Marinucci has been the overall director of HORA since 2007. In 2013 the HORA production Disabled Theater , created in collaboration with the French choreographer Jérôme Bel , was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen . In addition to co-productions with well-known representatives of the national and international dance, theater and performance scene, the long-term project Free Republic HORA is currently at the center of the work of the ensemble, a laboratory for directing, choreography and performance work for “mentally disabled” stage artists .
