Sebastian Hirn (* 1975 in Munich ) is a German theater and opera director and set designer .

Life

Sebastian Hirn comes from a family of sculptors in Munich. He completed a degree in history, literature and theater studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin , trained as a director at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna with Luc Bondy , who were accompanied by internships and assistants with Luc Bondy, Achim Freyer and Christian Stückl , among others , and studied stage design at the Zurich University of the Arts .

After completing his studies, she worked in the field of drama and music theater as well as numerous interdisciplinary projects. His productions are characterized by an intensive examination of the space. He also deals with the visual arts , in particular with happenings and performance . Hirn works closely with the Munich composer Helga Pogatschar . In 2006 he initiated a re-instrumented version of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel with folk musical instruments for the Tollwood Festival in Munich , which was developed by Helga Pogatschar. He moved the plot with Bernhard Hammer (set designer) in a huge, monumental mountain landscape the size of a football field, which was concreted on the Theresienwiese in Munich for the series of performances .

In 2008 Sebastian Hirn created a new version of the recitatives of Mozart's Così fan tutte for the Schwetzingen Mozart Festival , which were newly composed in cooperation with the composition classes of Sidney Corbett in Mannheim and Jörn Arnecke in Hamburg. As part of the Rodeo Festival of the City of Munich, Sebastian Hirn installed accidents in four different locations in the city. A truck tipped on its side could be seen at Max-Joseph-Platz - the belly of the truck trailer was torn open and the contents, art transport boxes, were spread across the square. The installation, not further declared, caused great irritation. The installation was featured on the front page of several Munich daily newspapers. In 2015/16 Sebastian Hirn organized a music / dance / performance series in the former swimming pool of the Kuszner textile factory, which is now the Kunstwohnwerke in Munich. For the purpose of filming, in 2014 he uncovered the swimming pool, which for years had been converted into a warehouse and completely overbuilt. A full-size shrimp cutter was built in the former basin. The space-consuming installation was played in various actions by musicians and dancers. The accordionist Krassimir Sterev , the formation Frachter from Zurich and the composer and jazz musician Franz Koglmann could be heard there.
