Gaenssler works primarily as a photographer and mostly uses the photo collage technique for her large-format works . For her wall collages, she photographs rooms with a camera mounted on a tripod as if in a grid from top to bottom and from left to right. The thousands of individual images are reassembled at the exhibition site to form a complete view of the room shown. For the first time in 2012, she did not have her individual photos printed on paper in order to glue them together later, but used them as a template for a tapestry. Her work “Gobelin Sixtina, 2012” in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden is a tapestry measuring 680 × 925 cm, which is made in Belgian Flanders in a tapestry manufacture using the traditional technique of wool, cotton, silk and synthetic materials Yarn was woven. It replaces the Sistine Madonna for three months , but not only depicts the painting, but also the adjacent pictures and suites of rooms. The template for the tapestry was made from over 5750 photos by Gaenssler.
