history

The school building at Wredowplatz 2

In 1893 the school building at Wredowplatz 2 was built in the direct vicinity of the Wredow School of Drawing on a former building yard . Classes that were previously housed in Kleine Münzenstrasse moved into the new community school.

After the Second World War , the school became a high school , where the Abitur could be taken. The school was renamed the Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe-Oberschule in 1949, which was unstructured into an Extended Oberschule (EOS) in the 1950s .

After the political change in 1991, the school landscape in the newly founded state of Brandenburg was redesigned. Resulting from the GDR existing Polytechnic and Extended Secondary School were dissolved and it came under federal German model basic, real and comprehensive schools and high schools . From the previous Polytechnic Oberschule (POS) "Franz Ziegler", a double school, a comprehensive school and an elementary school, the Theodor-Fontane-Grundschule, was created, while the EOS "Johann-Wolfgang-von-Goethe" at Wredowplatz became a grammar school.

Since the capacities at the von Saldern-Gymnasium , which was housed in two widely separated school buildings, next to Wredowplatz was the second school building on Cathedral Island , was not sufficient, an exchange took place at the end of the school year 1994/95. The grammar school moved to Franz-Ziegler-Straße, the elementary school to Wredowplatz and the comprehensive school to Dominsel. From 2000 to 2001 the school building of the Theodor Fontane Primary School was extensively renovated . A sports hall in the Saldern grammar school is used for school sports and the Wredow drawing school is used for art classes .

Building

The school building on Wredowplatz is a historical and unplastered brick building . The building is three-story and three-wing . In the head building facing Wredowplatz, the portal is located in a slightly protruding central projection . It is reached via an eight-step flight of steps and is arched . On the second floor there is a round arched window in the central projection. The other windows are designed with segmental arches. These are incorporated into larger panels that go over both floors on the first and second floors, for example. The basement is optically separated from the basement by a simple cornice . Another cornice separates the lower floor from the lower floor. This cornice is supported by consoles . Both cornices run cranked around the head buildings and the central building. The cornices below the eaves are the most elaborate . The roof is a flat hip roof .
