Theodoros Pangalos (General)
Theodoros Pangalos ( Greek Θεόδωρος Πάγκαλος ; born January 11, 1878 in Salamis , Greece ; † February 26, 1952 in Athens ) was a general of the Greek army and a politician in Greece.
Pangalos was one of the main actors in the 1922 military revolt in which King Constantine I was overthrown. As a result, Pangalos was appointed Minister of War and supported the republic until 1924. He seized power in June 1925 and suspended the constitution in January 1926. The previous President of the Republic Pavlos Koundouriotis was forced to resign by Pangalos in April 1926, before he himself was elected president in a sham election. In August 1926, Georgios Kondylis deposed the dictator in a bloodless coup . Pangalos was imprisoned until 1928, but after his release in 1930 he was deported to the island of Corfu for two years because of his involvement in new conspiracies and detained there.
