Theres Strigl (also Therese or Theresia , also Striegl ; * July 15, 1824 in Sautens ; † February 16, 1908 there ) was an Austrian painter .

Life

Theres Strigl was the daughter of the painter and first mayor of Sautens Nikolaus Strigl (1784–1866), from whom she received her first painting lessons together with her sisters Antonia and Marianne. She then studied with Caspar Jele  in Innsbruck for a year , where she was also influenced by Franz Hellweger . In Sautens she ran a painting workshop with her sisters, in which mainly religious works such as altarpieces, antependia , stations of the cross , images of fasting , holy graves or votive tablets in the style of the Nazarenesoriginated. Most were intended for churches and chapels in the area, but some works can also be found in other parts of North and South Tyrol. In addition, a few pictures with secular motifs, such as views from the Ötztal , have survived. Theres Strigl also worked as a restorer of church works.
