Saldana was stalked by a stalker in the early 1980s ; the then 46-year-old British native Arthur Richard Jackson. He was able to find out where the actress lived. On March 15, 1982, they met in front of Saldana's home in Los Angeles. After Jackson asked Saldana if she was Theresa Saldana, the actress said she was. Immediately afterwards, Jackson pulled out a four-inch hunting knife and stabbed the woman. The doctors later counted 10 puncture wounds. Although there were many eyewitnesses, Jeff Fenn Jackson was the first to knock the knife out of his hand. Saldana was taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center . By then she had lost much of her blood; her heart had also stopped beating . A four-hour emergency operation saved Saldana's life. The rehabilitation period took Saldana four months in hospital. Arthur Jackson spent 14 years in prison. In 1996 he was extradited to Great Britain . Here he should have stood trial for robbery and murder; an act he is said to have committed in 1966. But the pending trial was dropped in 1997 because of Jackson's incapacity . Jackson was then admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where he died of a heart attack in 2004 at the age of 68 .

After her recovery, Saldana founded the aid organization Victims for Victims . Among other things, this well-known case of stalking caused law changes in the United States in the 1990s.

Saldana died on June 6, 2016 of complications from pneumonia.
