action

The journalist Tom Merrick is supposed to write an article about the great disasters of the 20th century. During his research he notices that the same man can be seen in photos of the disasters from different decades. He met this man on a flight and found a brochure from the Thrill Seekers company that offered time travel to various disasters. Since this flight is also on the list, Merrick overwhelms the crew and forces the pilots to continue flying the aircraft despite the failed on-board electronics. This enables the pilot to avoid another aircraft and thus prevent a crash.

Merrick is arrested by the FBI on suspicion of attempting to hijack the plane. The FBI offices are stormed by two killers from the future who, on behalf of the head of the time travel company, are supposed to prevent interference in the timing. Merrick escapes, with the help of the archivist Elizabeth Wintern. The two can prevent the next catastrophe, which should take place in the subway, by decoupling the railcar with the driver who died of a heart attack . Before that, the passengers can flee into the rear wagons, only the time traveler remains in the railcar and dies.

The killers learn from their client that the flow of time has changed so much that a nuclear catastrophe has destroyed their homeland, among other things, and they cannot go back to their time if the next catastrophe is prevented.

The last and greatest disaster is said to be a fire in a covered ice hockey stadium where Merrick's son wants to attend a game. He is warned by Merrick, but neither he nor Merrick's ex-wife takes his warnings and goes to the game. Merrick is determined to prevent the inferno; the killers sabotage the stadium so that the flow of time is not changed too much, and Merrick's son is also killed. As a result, Merrick is so desperate that, with the help of the time control that he took from the disaster tourist in the subway, he travels back to the time before the stadium exploded. Then he succeeds in warning the people in the stadium early on so that a large number of them can flee, including his son. The killers, however, are killed.

At the end the viewer learns that despite all the mishaps, time travel to disasters continues.

Trivia

A take from Money Train was reused for the derailment scene of the train, namely the complete scene from Money Train, which shows the train rolling over several times, tearing away several support pillars of the underground station. If you play the scene in slow motion, you can even see the money train - instead of a subway guide car.

Awards

The film was nominated for the Film Awards Saturn Award nomination.

Reviews

"An interesting film because of its history, but which suffers from modest acting performances as well as from the narrow television budget, whose cost-cutting measures are annoying."

At Movie-Pilot you can read: "Despite technical defects, 'Thrill Seekers' is an entertaining and very exciting B-entertainment, especially the really original story makes the film so surprisingly entertaining."

The critics of the television magazine TV-Spielfilm mean quite soberly: "A smart idea, but too pieced out"

The trade journal "DVD & Video Report" judges u. a .: "Cleverly devised science fiction thriller based on the 'X Files' scheme with spectacular special effects and an extraordinarily original story."
