Theresius von Seckendorf-Aberdar
Theresius von Seckendorf-Aberdar (born October 18, 1758 in Obernzenn ; † August 5, 1825 in Nuremberg ) was a German biographer, Romance scholar , Hispanist and lexicographer.
life and work
Count Theresius von Seckendorf (or: Seckendorff ) from the Seckendorf-Aberdar line (whose rare first name can be explained from the sponsorship of Empress Maria Theresa , since his father was a councilor at the imperial court), grew up in Vienna, Chur and Stuttgart studied at the University of Erlangen from 1776 , but had to leave the university after two years due to misconduct. He joined a French infantry regiment in Strasbourg, commanded by the later King Maximilian I Joseph (Bavaria) , but resigned from service because of a chronic illness and from then on lived as a private scholar in Franconia, except from 1797 to 1808 (in Prussian times) in the post of District director of the Ansbach district .
Seckendorf published a biography in four volumes, a Spanish-German dictionary in three volumes, and a etiquette based on the model of Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield .
