Thiazyl trifluoride can be obtained by reacting tetrasulphur tetranitride with silver (II) fluoride .

It can also be made from ammonia and disulphur decafluoride .

Thiazyl trifluoride is a colorless, thermally stable, pungent smelling gas that slowly hydrolyzes with water. It reacts quickly with sodium hydroxide to form ammonium, fluorine and sulfite ions. The compound is much more stable than thiazyl fluoride and does not react with ammonia at room temperature , even when heated, not with hydrogen chloride and below 400 ° C also not with sodium .
