Thomas Bopp (politician)

Thomas Bopp (* 31 December 1952 in Stuttgart ) is a German politician of the CDU . He is chairman of the Stuttgart Region Association and was a member of the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg from 2008 to 2011 .

education and profession

Thomas Bopp graduated from the Free Waldorf School at the Kräherwald in Stuttgart in 1972 . This was followed by studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Stuttgart (specializing in architecture) until 1977. In the same field, he continued his studies at the University of Stuttgart until 1981, which he completed with a degree in engineering .

From 1983 he worked as a freelance architect. From 1983 to 1989 he worked in the Möser und Bopp office and from 1989 to 2007 co-owner of Bopp planning team GmbH. Since 2008 he has been co-owner of Bopp Herrmann Architekten GmbH.

politics

Bopp was first elected to the regional assembly of the Stuttgart region in the local elections in 1994. He was re-elected in 1999, 2004 and 2009. Since January 1, 2007, he has succeeded Jürgen Fritz as Chairman of the Stuttgart Region Association . On September 16, 2009, September 17, 2014 and September 19, 2019 he was re-elected to this office for a further five years.

He came into state politics on June 2, 2008, replacing the departed MP Christoph Palmer . He represented the constituency of Stuttgart II in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg . For his group he sat on the Standing Committee and the European Committee. Within the parliamentary group, he was active in the law and constitution and Europe working groups.

Bopp was one of the seven supporters of the Stuttgart 21 project who spoke for Stuttgart 21 at the arbitration discussions moderated by Heiner Geißler .

In the state elections in 2011 he was unable to defend his direct mandate and therefore had to leave the state parliament. He lost 33.8 percent of the vote to Werner Wölfle of the Greens , who received 34.2 percent of the vote. In absolute terms, his gap on Wölfle was 301 votes.

Thomas Bopp is married and has two children.
