In June 2010 Wölfle aspired to the office of mayor for social affairs, youth and health of the state capital Stuttgart. But he lost to Isabel Fezer in the local council election.

In the state elections on March 27, 2011 , he was elected to the state parliament as a direct candidate for the constituency of Stuttgart II with 34.2 percent of the votes cast . In January 2019, Wölfle applied for disciplinary proceedings against himself at the municipal supervisory authority, the Stuttgart regional council. The aim of this procedure is to check whether Wölfle, as the mayor of the hospital , has disguised his involvement in the possibly illegal foreign business of the Stuttgart Clinic ”or“ has lied to the municipal council. ” To want to exercise the city of Stuttgart, so no longer run for re-election. In February 2019, the public prosecutor's office initiated an investigation into the suspicion of infidelity to the detriment of the city of Stuttgart in the Kuwait deal against Wölfle.
