Thomas G'schrey

Thomas G'schrey (born July 31, 1959 in Berlin ) is a German musician who is known under the names "TT Geigenschrey", "Thomthom Geigenschrey" and "TThomthom Geigenschrey".

Career

Thomas G'schrey has been active in the national and international subculture, E and U studio and live music scene since 1982. He is the son of the Berliner Gruppe Informel founder and Bauhaus artist Paran G'schrey, who died in 1968, and the grandson of the painter and poet Ludwig G'schrey, who worked in the Berlin artists' colony until 2002 .

As "TT Geigenschrey" he distinguished himself as a music journalist, concert organizer, cultural manager, studio, tour and improv musician, songwriter, accompanist, film and theater musician. He also created film scorings and live silent film scorings, made music for performances and accompanying readings.

As "Thomthom Geigenschrey" and "TT Geigenschrey" Thomas G'schrey works as a music journalist for several music journals:

From 1989 to 1996 he was a booking agent and promoter (under the name “Kulturtäter” Booking / Promotion), responsible for the content and organization of the club Insel der Jugend in Treptow.

Since 1983 he has been working parallel as an experimental rock, pop, avant-garde and free jazz violinist, tour and studio musician in productions by artists such as Faust , Embryo , Norbert Schwefel , Mooseheart Faith Instellar Groove Band (ex-The Angry Samoans) , Artwork (Goethes Erben), Paul James Berry (Ex-The Rose of Avalanche), Exedra, Kiwisex (Kx Noizsystem), Santrra Oxyd, Vic Chestnutt, Giant Sand, HF Coltello, Bill Direen (The Bilders), Sandra Bell, Bernd Kistenmacher , Günter Schickert, Clive Product, The Hitmen 3, Messin Cissokho, The Renderers, Gianni Mimmo and the Artaud Theater Berlin.

In the environment of the East Westphalian label Fast Weltweit he worked as a member of the band Der Fremde by musician Achim Knorr and was manager of the Berlin band Jetzt! .

In 2010 and 2011 Thomas G'schrey made recordings with the musician and producer Norbert Schwefel in the Audiomobil studio in Berlin-Wedding and they performed under the name Schwefel & Geigenschrey in various places in Berlin such as the now closed Friedrichshain theater band .

Sven Regener replied to the question how “he changed his mind from post-punk back to the music of the 68ers”: “It has nothing to do with 68. But actually: In the first review of our very first Element of Crime concert in the taz, Thomthom Geigenschrey wrote: 'The singer should rather play the trumpet again and not try to imitate Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.' It basically stayed that way (laughs). By the way, the place was jam-packed because an announcement had previously been made in the taz: 'New band with people from Neue Liebe and Fehlfarben.' "

Projects

G'schrey's main instrument is the violin. He is represented in very different musical styles and directions, mostly as an improvisation artist and live musician with his own contribution and sound. Working ad hoc by ear, he accompanies artists live with musical arrangements, takes over and extends complete melodies and accompanying movements with his instrument, e.g. B. rhythm guitars, bass lines, keyboards.
