Thomas II (Wroclaw)
Thomas Zaremba († March 15, 1292 ) was Prince-Bishop of Wroclaw as Thomas II .
Origin and career
Thomas came from the family of the Tsaremba and was the nephew of Bishop Thomas I of Wroclaw , whose close collaborator he was. From 1250 he was canon in Breslau and from 1264 to 1268 he was archdeacon of Opole .
Prince-Bishop of Wroclaw
After the death of the administrator Wladislaw von Schlesien , Thomas was elected Bishop of Wroclaw by the cathedral chapter in 1270.
His term of office was overshadowed by conflicts with Duke Heinrich IV , who asked Thomas to surrender villages that had been laid out without the ducal approval. After the court had awarded 65 villages to Heinrich, he occupied them and had the bishop's followers expelled from the parishes and monasteries. Thomas fled to Ratibor and excommunicated the duke. After the reconciliation in 1288, Heinrich donated the Kreuzkirche in Breslau with a chapter . At the same time, Bishop Thomas founded a chapter in Ratibor.
In 1290 Duke Heinrich confirmed the sovereignty of the bishopric of Ottmachau-Neisse to the bishop , whereby Thomas and his successors became sovereigns.
On January 12, 1291 Thomas certified that the Breslau cathedral dean Mileyus had sold the 40 Hufen village of Groß Mochbern near Breslau to the Breslau citizen and notary Arnold and Tilo von Banz for suspension under German law.
In 1274 Thomas took part in the Second Council of Lyon and organized diocesan synods in 1279 and 1290 . He had a list of the episcopal property drawn up and the Saxon land law translated into Latin.
After his death he was buried in the Breslau Cathedral .
