Thomas Lüscher

Thomas Lüscher (* 1978 in Zofingen ) is a Swiss pianist and composer .

Life

Thomas Lüscher first learned the harmonica , later the accordion and piano were added. After studying classical music at the Conservatory Basel at László Gyimesi , Jürg Wyttenbach and chamber music at Jost Meier followed private lessons with Lester Menezes in jazz piano . After a year at the Music Academy of the City of Basel in the Jazz department, he moved to Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music , made possible by the European Scholarship Award . He graduated with honors summa cum laude in jazz performance and composition in 2003. He studied in the USA with Joe Lovano , Hal Crook , Joanne Brackeen and Laszlo Gardony . The studies at Fred Hersch in New York City left a great influence .

Lüscher has been internationally active as a musician since 1993, in various formations and mostly in jazz . As a leader and sideman , he performed and recorded a. a. with Tiger Okoshi , Frank Möbus (guitarist) , George Robert , Ronny Graupe , Christoph Grab and Wolfgang Muthspiel .

Concerts and a. in London , Berlin , New York City , Prague and Moscow with own projects or as a band member with Christoph Grab Raw Vision, Keller's 10, Bernhard Bamert, Ymonos or the Sarah Chaksad Orchestra .

He participated in studio recordings for the labels UNIT , Neuklang ( Bauer Studios ), QFTF and Meta Records.

Lüscher teaches piano at the canton school in Wohlen .
