biography

Alpine skiing

Mayrpeter attended the Wehrgraben elementary school in Steyr, where his athletic talent was discovered. At the age of 6 he came to SK Steyr . He then attended the secondary ski school in Windischgarsten from 2002 to 2006 . In 2004 he was accepted into the student roster of the Upper Austria State Ski Association. Then he continued to Bad Hofgastein to the ski hotel management school, where he trained as a hotel manager. In 2009 he was accepted into the squad of the ÖSV youngsters.

From December 2007 Mayrpeter took part in FIS races at the age of 15 , although he was still at the start in all disciplines at that time. In 2009 he was a participant in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Szczyrk , where he achieved fifth place in slalom . After he was accepted into the European Cup team of the ÖSV for the 2010/11 season, the first appearances in this racing series followed in January 2011. Mayrpeter began to specialize in the fast disciplines. A year later he achieved his first victory in an FIS race. Also in January 2012, he finished in the points for the first time in the European Cup races. At the 2013 Junior World Championships in Québec , he won the gold medal in the Super-G and the silver medal in the downhill.

During the 2013/14 season Mayrpeter achieved a podium finish in the European Cup. In the winter of 2014/15 he achieved four more podium places. As runner-up in the Super-G classification and third in the downhill classification, he secured a fixed starting position in these disciplines for the coming World Cup season.

Thomas Mayrpeter's World Cup career began with a serious setback. After finishing 41st on his debut on November 28, 2015 in the Downhill of Lake Louise , he had a hard crash the following day in the Super-G. Mayrpeter tore a cruciate ligament and injured a meniscus and had to undergo an operation. After that he did not contest any more World Cup races and could no longer build on previous successes in the European Cup.

Ski cross

Mayrpeter started in the freestyle discipline of ski cross since the 2018/19 season . After good results in the European Cup, he made his World Cup debut on December 6, 2019 in Val Thorens . After finishing 23rd in the first race, he improved to seventh place the next day, which was his best result for the time being.
