Maukendorf , Upper Sorbian Mučow ? / i , is a district of the city of Wittichenau in the Bautzen district in Saxony . The place belongs to the recognized Sorbian settlement area . Audio file / audio sample

geography

The round village is located in Upper Lusatia about seven kilometers south-east of Hoyerswerda and almost five kilometers east of the city of Wittichenau . Surrounding villages are belonging to the town of Hoyerswerda districts Zeißig the north and Knappenrode in the East, to the municipality Lohsa belonging districts Koblenz and United Särchen the southeast, Brischko in the southwest, Keula the west and Spohla in the northwest.

The federal highway 96 runs through Maukendorf from Bautzen to Hoyerswerda. In the village branch off from this the district road 9207 to Knappenrode and the district road 9219 to Wittichenau. Maukendorf is traversed by the Alter Schwarzwasser and the Schwarzen Graben, which flows within the district into the Knappenrode (Knappensee) reservoir located southeast of Maukendorf .

history

Maukendorf was first mentioned in a document as Muckendorff in 1401 . In the following period, the place name changed from Mauckendorff (1568) to Mauck (h) en (n) dorff (1575) and again Mauckendorff (1658) to today's Mauckendorf in 1768.

After the Congress of Vienna , Maukendorf fell to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815 . There the place was until July 8, 1945 in the administrative district of Liegnitz . On July 25, 1952, Maukendorf was assigned to the Hoyerswerda district . After the reunification , the municipality of Maukendorf was in the Hoyerswerda district in Saxony . On January 1, 1994, Maukendorf was incorporated into Wittichenau . From January 1, 1996 to July 31, 2008, Maukendorf was in the district of Kamenz , for the Saxon district reform of August 1, 2008 , the village was assigned to the district of Bautzen .

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 162 inhabitants in 1884, all of whom were Sorbs . Ernst Tschernik determined a Sorbian-speaking population of 45.3% in 1956.

Maukendorf is part of the Catholic Upper Sorbian core settlement area and belongs to the parish of Groß Särchen.
