Zeißig , Upper Sorbian Ćisk ? / i , is a district of the large district town of Hoyerswerda in the Saxon district of Bautzen . The Angerdorf belongs to Upper Lusatia and a recognized Sorbian settlement area . The Sorbian place name Ćisk is probably derived from Ćis , the Sorbian name for the yew tree . geography

Zeißig borders the large district town of Hoyerswerda to the southeast and is crossed by the Görlitz - Falkenberg - Leipzig railway line . The northerly of the line industrial area industrial area belongs today to the hallway Zeißig. The Zeißiger Flur is 1375 hectares in size. Parts of the Hoyerswerdaer Neustadt lie on it . The former colony Zeißig , which was founded at the end of the 18th century and is now called Klein Zeißig , also belongs to Zeißig . It is located on the S 108 state road on the eastern outskirts of Hoyerswerda. The B 96 has been running to the east of Hoyerswerda since 2018 as an eastern bypass.

Zeißig is surrounded in the east by the Hoyerswerda Forest. To the west of the village are agricultural fields. The core of the Zeißig drinking water protection area is located south of the Hoyerswerda-Neustadt stop . Eight deep wells supply the city of Hoyerswerda with drinking water from a depth of 52 meters. The operators are the Hoyerswerda utilities (VBH). This drinking water protection area has existed in its current extent since 1975.

Waters

Not far from the village, the Hoyerswerda Black Water flows into the Wudra as a first-order body of water on the western side . In contrast, the mostly dry Alte Schwarzwasser flows into the Büschingsgraben, which is partly underground, at the Hommelmühle, now used as a residential building .

The Zeißig ditch is fed by the Hoyerswerda black water. The Hoyerswerdaer Schwarzwasser in the south of Zeißig also forms the border to the Spohla district .

history

Zeißig is first mentioned in a document in 1248. Due to the planned structures of the Angerdorf, young emigrants from the Bautzen area probably founded the place as a colonist village in the 10th or 11th century . The reasons for this have not yet been explored.

The doubling of the population between 1990 and 2008 is due to the development of the new building area at Am Sender . Numerous citizens from the core city of Hoyerswerda moved here.

As part of his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia, Arnošt Muka determined a population of 332 for Zeissig in the 1880s, including 326 Sorbs (98%) and only six Germans. In 1956 Ernst Tschernik counted a Sorbian-speaking population of 67.3% in the community.

economy

In Zeißig there are numerous craft businesses, such as car dealerships, building locksmiths, advertising companies and electrical specialists, but also management consultants and restaurants. Before 1990 there was even a rope factory in the town center. In 1954 developed industrial park industrial area before 1990 was the so-called concrete plant is the largest employer, next to the bakery Hoback (as a branch of in March 2010 Vienna confectioner Heberer closed) and the now-closed dairy - see main article about Hoyerswerda . The plastic LPG-Bauer was created in 1960 by the Hoyerswerda sculptor Jürgen von Woyski and is in front of the Zeissighof.

The well-tended village meadow with a large children's playground is regularly the center of cultural activities in Zeißig. The Zeißighof , built in 1880, is in the immediate vicinity . Here the association for the promotion of the cultural village community Zeißig, Kulturverein Zeißig e. V. has its headquarters. The facility sees itself as an adventure courtyard and can be described as a so-called active museum : The traditional craftsmanship is demonstrated during guided tours and events. The most recent acquisition, for example, is a loom, which was restored and put back into operation at the end of 2009. The Sorbian folk dance group and the senior club are integrated in the cultural association .

Other activities, such as witch burning and maypole throwing , are provided by the youth club and the local volunteer fire brigade, as well as by the sports club SV Zeißig (soccer).

The plastic LPG farmer by the Hoyerswerda sculptor Jürgen von Woyski stands in front of the Zeißig-Hof . The bronze sculpture Seated Girl by the Cottbus sculptor Heinz Mamat has been in the children's tree park behind the fire brigade since 2013 .

In the building of LauTech-GmbH in the commercial zone industrial site that's Konrad Zuse computer museum housed. It shows the development of computing technology from the beginning to the present.
