Thomas Meitsch (born August 23, 1968 in Leipzig ), known under the pseudonym Schwarwel , is a German graphic artist, illustrator, comic artist, director, art director and was the artistic director of the comic publisher Extrem Successful Enterprises (EEE), Leipzig.

Life

After attending the polytechnic high school , he successfully completed an apprenticeship as a roofer and then worked at the Leipzig theater workshops. After the fall of the Berlin Wall he became a graphic designer for clubs, bands and the music magazine "Messitsch", which he co-founded. He created posters with myths of the post-punk era as content.

Since his first Schweinevogel -Comicstrips 1987 he recorded for various magazines, newspapers and comic publications as well as for a series of comic series for the publisher EEE for which he served ten years as co-publisher and editor in chief.

Erl is the creator of Schweinevogel , Iron Hardy, Swampie, Sid and the entire Schweiniversum. The first pig bird comic is called Liebe, Tod & Teufel . From 1996 to 2003 another 14 issues were published and in 2008 Schweinvogel - Die Wunder des Schweiniversum . For the 2007 songbook Die Wilden Kerle DWK Songs Vol. 1 , he designed the overall cover and the layout of individual inside pages.

Since 2004 he has been working as a freelance graphic designer, director, art director and illustrator at "Glücklicher Montag" (formerly Big F GmbH) and "Torpedo Leipzig". Among other things, he has already been responsible for animation sequences and the direction of music video clips from Die Ärzte , Rosenstolz , Killer Barbies and Good Charlotte , as well as various feature films and TV episodes.

From 1993 to the beginning of 2011, Schwarwel was the art director of the band Die Ärzte . He also wrote the comic Tales from The Doctors - Attack of the Fat Teenagers .

For the Farin Urlaub Racing Team , Schwarwel designed the CD covers for the albums At the End of the Sun and The Truth About Lies .

In autumn 2014 the twelve-minute cartoon “1989 - Our homeland, that's not just the cities and villages” was released (premiere: October 10, 2014 in Leipzig, TV premiere on November 9, 2014 on MDR television).
