At the end of the sun is the second solo album by Farin Urlaub , who is also known as the guitarist and singer of the punk rock band Die Ärzte . It was released on March 29, 2005.

background

Compared to the first solo album Finally vacation! The Berlin- born record is much harder and more guitar-oriented, which Farin Urlaub justifies as follows: "With the first solo album , others approached me and said: 'And for that you needed a solo album ?!' I just didn't want people to think that I would only take songs that didn't make it onto doctors records. ”In another interview he also remarked that he just wanted to make a real guitar album according to his ideas. In addition, he did not want to be seen as "the eternal joker" and with this album he also wanted to devote himself to more serious topics. In addition, he wrote the songs on this album with the idea of a live version in the background for the racing team to a certain extent "on the body".

Despite mostly negative reviews, the album reached number 1 in the German charts . Like on holiday at last! has holiday almost all the instruments except for the brass and strings, as well as the drums on the hidden track once again , played himself.

Holiday's favorite song on this album is sun , according to its own account .

According to the booklet , the album is dedicated to the Disney translator Erika Fuchs . She passed away shortly after the album was released.

reception

"[...] Farin's rhetorical question, initially intended with a wink," Why record four guitar tracks when it can be ten? " proves to be a glaring beacon here. One of the best songs is "Porcelain", which has slight similarities to placebo and deals with the big issue of happiness. […] We therefore want to emphasize that Farin Urlaub is still one of the good guys (who rhymes MP3 player with Slayer ?), But we are by no means unafraid to see that the man is musically increasingly on the edge of Insignificance plays. "At the end of the sun" there is a clear lack of relaxing sound surprises like the earlier "Sumisu" or, in another context, "Jag älskar Sverige!" able; Songs that did not immediately serve the listener with a crowbar, by what great past they have to be measured. But like this: an album for the shelf (okay, the pictures are nice too). "
