The Truth About Lies is the first studio album as well as the second album by the Farin Urlaub Racing Team (FURT), Farin Urlaub's live band, best known as the singer and guitarist of the band Die Ärzte . After the studio albums Holidays at long last! and At the end of the sun , which Urlaub recorded both alone, and the live album, Live album of Death , it is Farin Urlaub's fourth solo album.

background

In contrast to the previous solo albums, the album was recorded by TeamTonic with sound engineer Mirko Schaffer , who had already played differently on the Die-Ärzte album Jazz ist . The recordings took place in Spain.

Because another album title preferred by Urlaub was - according to his friends - too boring, he chose the title The Truth About Lies. The title refers to the name of a song that was supposed to be on the album but wasn't finished in time.

The album was released on October 31, 2008 as CD and vinyl version; the former consists of two CDs with the working title Buffalo Herd or large album and Ponyhof or small album . Büffelherde contains more rocky songs, while the mini-CD Ponyhof contains other (off) beats such as reggae , ska and dancehall . The vinyl version was released as a 12 ″ with a red 7 ″ color disc and included a code for a one-time free download of the MP3 version.

Single releases

On October 17, 2008, the single Nichimgriff was released . With this song, Farin wanted to create a song that should convince the listener less with the text than with the basic message and the feelings generated. Song 2 by Blur was a role model in this regard . The video for the song was already on the music TV channels on September 26, 2008. At the end of the video a car drives at full speed into a gas station where the Farin Urlaub Racing Team is performing the song. There is a big explosion, with which Urlaub dies his eighth "video death".

On January 9, 2009, the second single was never released . However, the associated video was already on MTV in December. In addition to the B-side, Words is missing on the single, there is also a live version of Insel , which was recorded on the Krachgarten tour in 2008.

The third single Krieg was released on May 1, 2009 as a download version and one day later on CD. In addition to War, it also contains the B-side one-person uprising and two music videos called War (in New York) and War (on stage) .

The fourth single was released on June 18, 2010: Too hot . In addition to the radio version of Too hot, there is also the B-side Der Frauenflüsterer , a live version of cards and the video for the title song.

reception

“[…] In the end, one wonders why Urlaub didn't smuggle a few ponies among the buffalo. If he had mixed up all the titles and put them on one disc, things would have been considerably more varied. "
