Thomas Pühringer

Thomas Pühringer (* 1941 in Wels ; † December 30, 2018 in Linz ) was an Austrian painter and sculptor .

Live and act

The son of the Linz puppeteer Franz Pühringer (operator of the Linz puppet shows ) studied with Walter Ritter at the art school of the city of Linz in the master class for sculpture from 1956 to 1962 , has worked as a visual artist since 1962 and worked in a studio of the Egon Hofmann House . Later on, alongside Rudolf Kolbitsch and Peter Kubovsky, he was a member of an artistic advisory body for many years, which is heard when making decisions about the admission of an artist.

Since 1966 he was a member of the artists' association MAERZ and in 1973 he became a member of the Graz Secession . From 1962 he took part in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad and carried out four solo exhibitions. He has won several art prizes, including the Theodor Körner Prize (1967, 1982).

As a student of sculpture, Thomas Pühringer created a new plastic stage decoration during the renovation of the Linz puppet theater in 1960 , which was equipped with numerous technical possibilities.

His works include sculptures and reliefs in concrete , terracotta , bronze , copper and aluminum for public and private buildings in Upper Austria . Further commissioned works were writing stones, war memorials , ways of the cross , fountains and bridge figures. He also dealt with the planning and design of large rooms, such as the chapel in Hartheim with glass windows, the playground of the Jahn school and various children's playgrounds.
