Thomas Resetarits (born November 25, 1939 in Stinatz , Burgenland ) is an Austrian sculptor.

life and work

Thomas Resetarits (Tome Rešetarić) was born to Franjo and Justina Resetarits, who belonged to the Croatian minority in Austria. During school he began to carve wooden figures. From 1955 he attended an apprenticeship as a stone sculptor at the workers' secondary school in Graz. In 1957 he passed the journeyman's examination as a stone sculptor. In 1958 he worked in this profession in Vienna and later for a stone industry company in Salzburg. In 1964 he passed his master craftsman examination in Vienna. From 1965 to 1967 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.

After his marriage to the elementary school teacher Herta Flasch, Resetarits has been working as a freelance sculptor since 1966. He made trips to Rome, Hungary, Croatia, Germany, Mexico, USA, Africa, India, New Guinea, South America, South Africa and China. In Kassel, Resetarits became a member of the "Friedhof und Denkmal" working group.

He works in stone, wood and bronze. From 1970 he received numerous commissions from the Diocese of Eisenstadt for altar and stations of the cross. Between 1974 and 1976 he was involved in the rehabilitation of the Eisenstadt prison with an arts education activity. From 1990 he started designing glass windows and mainly took on commissioned works in the sacred area as well as sculptures for public spaces. In 1995 he received the first prize at the first workshop in Trausdorf , Burgenland. He lives and works in Wortberg , Burgenland.
