Thomas Vogel (historian)

Thomas Vogel (* 1959 in Karlsruhe ) is a German officer ( lieutenant colonel ) and military historian . He works at the Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the Bundeswehr .

Life

Vogel grew up in Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate and, after graduating from high school in 1978, joined the artillery force of the German Armed Forces as an officer candidate . From 1985, he studied history and German literature in 1994 and was at Hubert Mordek at the University of Freiburg with a thesis feud feud law and practice in the late Middle Ages the example of the city of Nuremberg (1404-1438) for Dr. phil. PhD.

In 1997 he became a research assistant at the Military History Research Office (MGFA) in Potsdam. From 1998 to 2001 he was editor of the military history magazine and from 2004 to 2012 of the military history magazine . From 2005 to 2010 he was also Head of Historical Education. Since 2012 he has been leading the “ Second World War ” project.

In 2011 he became a member of the scientific advisory board of the Seelower Heights Memorial .
