Harald Potempa
Harald Fritz Potempa (born November 13, 1963 in Dorfen ) is a German officer ( lieutenant colonel ), military historian and local politician of the SPD . From 1997 to 2005 he was director of the Air Force Museum of the German Armed Forces in Berlin-Gatow.
Life
Potempa was born in 1963 as the son of a bank clerk in the Erding district in Upper Bavaria and attended schools in Munich-Bogenhausen and Erding . After graduating from high school in 1983 at the Erding high school with a mathematical and natural science branch, he was a temporary soldier (SaZ) from 1983 to 1985 with the telecommunications unit of the army in Cologne and at the headquarters of the Central Army Group (CENTAG) in Heidelberg. He was then trained in numerous military exercises to become a reserve officer in the Air Force; he was u. a. when scheduled as an intelligence officer at Lufttransportgeschwader 61 in Penzing.
From 1985 to 1995 he studied Bavarian regional history, historical auxiliary sciences and folklore at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (MA) and in 1995 he was taught by Hans Schmidt - his second corrector was Ludwig Hammermayer , who already supported him with his master's thesis - at the Philosophical Faculty ( Department 9) of the LMU Munich with the dissertation The Royal Bavarian Air Force 1914–1918 for Dr. phil. PhD.
He then returned to the armed forces through a fitness exercise as a reinstatement in the rank of captain and became a professional soldier . In 1995/96 he was a teaching staff officer / lecturer for military history at the Air Force Officers School (OSLw) in Fürstenfeldbruck and was in charge of the military history collection. From 1997 to 2005 he was director of the Air Force Museum of the German Armed Forces in Berlin-Gatow. In 2005 he became a research associate in the Ages of World Wars research department at the Military History Research Office (MGFA) in Potsdam. Since 2006 he has been editor of the magazine military history . In 2013 he became a research associate and press staff officer in the media department of the Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the Bundeswehr (ZMSBw). His main research interests are the Bavarian regional history , the history of military aviation , the tradition of the Bundeswehr, historical education and the museum and exhibition system.
He appears regularly as a speaker and published a. a. in the military history magazine and in the Upper Bavarian archive . From 1998 to 2006 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
Since 2013 he has been a member of the local committee of the SPD Falkensee, of which he has been a member since 1991. For four years he was a member of the Falkensee City Council , on whose finance and education committee he was active. Since 2015 he has been an expert resident of the Committee for Education, Culture, Sport and Social Affairs. In the run-up to the 2017 federal election , he applied as a direct candidate for constituency 58 (Oberhavel - Havelland II), but was subject to his challenger within the party.
Potempa is married with one child and has lived in Falkensee since 1999 . Since 1984/85 he has held a pilot's license for gliders and motor gliders .
