Thomas Wrießnig

Thomas Wrießnig (born January 29, 1955 ) is a German diplomat who has been the German Ambassador to Honduras since 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Wrießnig studied law from 1975 to 1980 at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg , the University of Geneva and the University of Regensburg and graduated in 1981 with the first state examination in law and the second state examination in 1983. He then worked between 1983 and 1984 as a research assistant at the chair for European law at the University of Regensburg.

In 1985, Wrießnig joined the Foreign Service and, following preparatory service and a career examination for the higher foreign service, from 1986 to 1989, initially as Second Secretary in the Department for Antarctic Policy and Maritime Law at the Foreign Office in Bonn and then between 1989 and 1991 as First Secretary at the Embassy in South Korea .

In 1991 Wrießnig became First Secretary and Advisor for Western European Policy in the Foreign Office and was then employed as Political Counselor at the Embassy in Russia between 1994 and 1997 , before he was Deputy Head of the East Asia Department in the Foreign Office from 1997 to 2002. He was then between 2002 and 2006 as counselor and envoy head of the cultural department at the embassy in the USA .

After his return, Wrießnig was Head of Division for South Asia from 2006 to 2007 and then as a lecturer, First Class Councilor, Head of Division for East Asia at the Foreign Office in Berlin between 2007 and 2009 , before he was envoy and head of the economic department of the embassy in France from 2009 to 2012 .

By 2015 Wrießnig was Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the FAO, WFP and IFAD in Rome and successor of the retirement came Friedrich-Carl Bruns . His successor is Hinrich Thölken .

In 2015 he became Vice President of the Federal Academy for Security Policy . Wrießnig has been ambassador to Honduras since 2017 .

Wrießnig is married to Martina Nibbeling-Wrießnig , who has been the German ambassador to Costa Rica since 2018 .
