Friedrich-Carl Bruns

Friedrich-Carl Bruns (born October 17, 1947 in Düren , † July 5, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat . From 2011 to 2012 he was the permanent representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the UN organizations in Rome.

Life

From 1955 to 1959 he attended the municipal community primary school Martin Luther in Düren, then the Wirteltorgymnasium in Düren up to the Abitur in 1966. From 1967 to 1968 he did his military service in the German Navy and became a reserve officer . Most recently he was corvette captain of the reserve . In 1968 he began to study law at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and became active in the Corps Saxonia Göttingen . In 1970 he moved to the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

In 1973 he passed the first state examination in law in Cologne and then worked as a trainee lawyer at the Braunschweig Higher Regional Court and as a research assistant at the Technical University of Braunschweig . In 1976 the assessor examination followed in Hanover. From 1977 to 1979 he was a trainee at Deutsche Bank AG in Frankfurt.

After joining the Foreign Service in 1979, he worked in the legal department of the Foreign Office (as a civil law officer) and at the embassy in Kenya (as a political officer and the international organizations UNEP and HABITAT ). From 1986 to 1989 Bruns was the ambassador's permanent representative in Niger . He then worked at the embassy in France as a consultant for economics and then for culture. In 1991 he became deputy head of the media department of the Foreign Office before becoming consul general in Cape Town / South Africa in 1994 . From the end of 1999 to 2001 he was first permanent representative of the ambassador in Nigeria (Lagos) and then until 2002 head of the Lagos branch and at the same time permanent representative of the ambassador in Nigeria (Abuja). From 2002 to 2003 Bruns was an advisor for multilateral cultural policy, then head of the department for Deutsche Welle , print and audiovisual media in the Foreign Office. From 2005 to 2008 he was head of the Consulate General in Guangzhou / China . From 2008 to 2010 he headed the Consulate General in Bordeaux (France). He then moved to the embassy in Rome as an advisor to the science department . From 2011 to 2012 he was ambassador and head of the Rome-based permanent representation of Germany to the UN organizations FAO , WFP and IFAD .

After his retirement he practiced as a lawyer . He also ran an international consulting company and, as a trained sommelier, a wine trade .
