In May 1988 Hansen was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas and came in three tournaments in the money. He won an event the variant Seven Card Stud and secured bracelet and a prize money of 158,000 US dollars. In January 1999, Hansen won the Carnivale of Poker at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas with a grand prize of more than $ 120,000. At the WSOP 2002 he prevailed in a tournament in No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball and received his second bracelet and prize money of 62,600 US dollars. In mid-February 2004, Hansen won an LA Poker Classic tournament in Los Angeles with a grand prize of just under $ 140,000. At the 2006 WSOP, which is now being held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino , he finished second behind Scott Clements at an event in Omaha Hi / Lo and received over 150,000 US dollars. A year later, Hansen finished fourth at the 2007 WSOP at the World Limit Hold'em Championship for just under $ 100,000 and then finished eighth at the $ 50,000 HORSE event, which was worth around $ 190,000 .
