"Tilapia" pra is a West African species of cichlid that occurs in the Pra , Ankobra , Tano and Bia riversin southwestern Ghana and southeastern Ivory Coast.
The cichlids of these rivers had been known for a long time, but were assigned to "Tilapia" busumana . The terra typica of "Tilapia" busumana is the Bosumtwisee in Ghana. The river populations are larger than "Tilapia" busumana and also differ in their breeding behavior from the cichlids in the Bosumtwisee. For this reason, the species name “Tilapia” was introduced for them in 2010 .
features
In the first description , a standard length of 12.7 cm and a total length of 17 cm were given for “tilapia” pra . In older publications, lengths of up to 25 cm were published for the river populations of “Tilapia” busumana (now “Tilapia” pra ). “Tilapia” pra has a light brown to gray back and a yellow to beige belly, “Tilapia” busumana , on the other hand, has a bluish to purple colored back and a much darker underside than “Tilapia” pra . In addition, “tilapia” pra differs from “tilapia” busumana in that it has a longer last spine in the dorsal fin (16.2–21.3% vs. 11.6–14.9% of the SL ), a shorter lower lip (8.0 -10.7% vs. 9.6-13.9% of the SL) and a shorter lower jaw (9.9-13.6% vs. 10.5-15.2% of the SL). On the anterior lower pharyngealia , “tilapia” has pra double- pointed pharyngeal teeth .
Compared to Tilapia baloni and T. ruweti , “Tilapia” has more gill rakes on the lower branch of the first gill arch (10–12 vs. 6–9). The species differs from Tilapia guinasana in having more lateral line scales in the upper lateral line (18–22 vs. 14–17). "Tilapia" differs from Tilapia sparrmanii , the type of the genus Tilapia , in that it has more lateral line scales in the upper lateral line (18–22 vs. 14–19), a shorter anal fin base (15.0–18.6% vs. 18, 0–23.8% of SL) and fewer vertical stripes on the sides of the body. "Tilapia" pra differs from Pelmatolapia mariae , P. cabrae and "Tilapia" brevimanus by the strong, non-spade-shaped teeth in the outer rows of teeth. The three types mentioned, however, have delicate, spade-shaped teeth in the outer rows of teeth.
- Fins formula : dorsal XIV – XVI / 11–12, anal III / 8–10.
Systematics
During a revision of the substrate- spawning tilapiini by German scientists, a close relationship between "Tilapia" pra , "Tilapia" busumana and "Tilapia" brevimanus with the rapids occurring cichlid genus Gobiocichla was established and a new tribe for the genus Gobiocichla and its closest relatives was introduced. the gobiocichlini . Until a new generic name is introduced for the immediate relatives of Gobiocichla , they will remain in their old genera.
