Timofei Alexandrowitsch Kuljabin ( Russian Тимофей Александрович Кулябин ; born October 10, 1984 in Ischewsk , Soviet Union ) is a Russian theater and opera director .

Timofei Kuljabin is one of the most prominent young theater directors in Russia. After graduating from the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (with Oleg Kudrjaschow ) in 2007, he worked successfully in Russian and foreign theaters, with (until March 2015) 15 drama and two opera productions. Critics highlighted his ability to develop consistent and original concepts in both large and chamber formats. His productions of classical pieces and operas have met with a great response in professional and amateur theater circles. His onegin at the Rote Fackel Theater in Novosibirsk , where he also served as artistic director, was awarded the special prize of the Russian Festival for Performing Arts and the national theater prize Golden Mask . His production of Wagner's opera Tannhäuser at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater was released on December 20, 2014 and received great acclaim from the critics. After his Onegin production and the #Shakespeare sonette at the Moscow Theater of Nations , he was invited to direct Donizetti's Don Pasquale at the Moscow Bolshoi Theater in April 2016 .

The director of the Novosibirsk Theater, Boris Mesdritsch, was dismissed in March 2015 because of his Tannhäuser production, in whose Venusberg scene Tannhäuser was portrayed as Jesus Christ .
