Tiromancino ( ital. Tiro mancino , roughly "lousy trick") is an Italian pop rock band around Federico Zampaglione (* 1968), which was founded in 1989 in Rome . After four relatively unsuccessful albums in the 1990s, the group became known after participating in the Sanremo Festival in 2000 and with the number one hit Per me è importante in 2002. Since it was founded, she has seen a number of line-up changes, which means that frontman Zampaglione is the only permanent member of the band to this day.

Band history

The band debuted in 1992 with the album Tiromancyno and released another three albums in the course of the 1990s, which, however, received little attention, probably also because of their relatively experimental style. In 1995 there was already a major line-up change, only frontman Zampaglione remained in the group. Among the new band members was his brother, Francesco Zampaglione. For the next album Tiromancino switched to Virgin Records ( EMI ) and worked with the musician and producer Riccardo Sinigallia . The band entered the race at the 2000 Sanremo Festival with the song Strade and came second in the newcomer category. This was followed by the album La descrizione di un attimo , which reached the top 10 of the Italian album charts.

The song Due destini found its way into the soundtrack of the film The Clueless by Ferzan Özpetek in 2001 and became the anthem of the Italian Gay Pride that year. In the same year there was again a complete line-up change around Federico Zampaglione. With a new line-up, the group recorded the new album In continuo movimento in 2002 . The first single from it, Per me è importante , was a great success and reached the top of the single charts. The album also featured a duet with last year's Sanremo winner Elisa . The following album Illusioni parallele , which was released in 2004, was also very successful. Then a duet with Manuel Agnelli could be heard. After the publication of a compilation in 2005, there was another line-up change.

In 2007 Federico Zampaglione made his debut as a director with the film Nero bifamiliare , while the soundtrack to it was published by Tiromancino under the title L'alba di domani . With Il rubacuori the band returned to the Sanremo Festival in 2008 without much success; However, controversies surrounding the song led to a break with EMI, which is why the live album Il suono dei chilometri was subsequently released on the independent label Edel . In 2009 Zampaglione presented his second directorial work with the film Shadow , followed in 2013 by Tulpa - Perdizioni mortali . In the meantime he released the album L'essenziale with the band (again with a new line-up) in late 2010 .

Only after a new record deal with a major label ( Sony ) and another line-up change (for example, Francesco Zampaglione returned briefly), Tiromancino was able to build on earlier successes with Indagine su un sentimento in 2014 . In 2015 Fabio Verdini replaced Francesco Zampaglione on keyboard and the band began working on a new studio album, which was released in 2016 under the title Nel respiro del mondo . Two years later the band presented the album Fino a qui , on which they presented older songs in a new way, in duets with u. a. Alessandra Amoroso , Tiziano Ferro or Luca Carboni .
