The Tobelbach is a ten-kilometer left tributary of the Töss in the Swiss canton of Zurich . The brook drains a section of the Tösstal region southeast of Winterthur in the Zurich Oberland .

It is not to be confused with the Tobelbach , which flows into the Töss near Bauma or with the Tobelbach , which flows into the Töss near Neftenbach .

geography

course

The stream rises at 635  m above sea level. M. as Muslochbach southeast of the hamlet of Schür in the municipality of Pfäffikon . The source is in a dense tree population between the Islerweid in the west and the Haslerweid in the east. After a short run to the northwest he is overtaken, shortly after which he crosses the municipal boundary to Russikon and is now called Tobelbach. Here it crosses under the fields in the Musloch and, lined with dense trees, comes back to the surface. It now flows mainly to the north-northwest, taking in the Mülistettenbach from the right and the Huflandenbach and Kilstenbach from the left. After its confluence, it turns north-north-east and only a little later reaches the Russiker Aussenwacht Gündisau , through which it flows openly and takes up three short streams that converge.

Lower waterfall

A little later, after the confluence of the right tributary Homberg Bach , he turns to the northwest, where he, after the target stream pours from the right into the creek, a small ravine forms. The municipality border between Russikon and Wildberg also runs through the densely wooded ravine , which it forms for around 850 meters before it runs entirely back to Russiker territory. The Tobelbach now reaches the hamlet of Bläsimühle , where it is initially only slightly deepened. Here, after the confluence of the Anwandelbach , also called Furtbach, it takes a predominantly northern course. It flows around Bläsimühle to the west, digging itself into the left bank slope below Ludetswils .

Shortly afterwards the 5.5 km long Mülibach flows from the right , which is around 600 meters longer at its mouth. After its confluence, the brook forms a deep and densely wooded ravine, which is simply referred to as a ravine . It forms the municipal boundary between Russikon, then Weisslingen , on the left bank with Wilberg on the right bank. At the same time it makes several arcs and passes a 5 meter high waterfall. Ten brooks flow into this section, of which the Mülitobelbach and Sägelbach from the left and the Stammbach and Wöschbach from the right are the most important.

After the latter, the stream turns again to the northwest, initially running on the left slope at the tree line. The ravine widens into a small valley, and the stream initially forms the border between Weisslingen and Zell , or between the districts of Pfäffikon and Winterthur . At the Tobelhof farm , a little below the Rikon Tibet Institute , it leaves the forest area and relocates its stream to the center of the valley, completely crossing over to the municipality of Zell. The Tobelbach now runs through several fields, lined with dense and narrow trees. Here the Neschwilerbach flows from the left , before the Tobelbach passes the hamlet of Hinterrikon in the southwest a little later .

The Tobelbach now reaches the Töss Valley and touches a sports field on the left bank at Lochfeld . Finally it flows out at an altitude of 507  m above sea level. M. across from Rikon from the left into the middle course of the Töss.

Catchment area

The 18.66 square kilometer catchment area extends over the municipalities of Pfäffikon , Russikon , Wildberg , Weisslingen and Zell . It consists of 51.2% agricultural area, 41.6% wooded area, 6.6% settlement area, 0.4% unproductive area and 0.2% water area. The 820  m above sea level. M. high Täbrig represents the highest elevation, the average height is 672  m above sea level. M.

In the west lies the catchment area of the Wissenbach and that of the Kempt , which also borders in the south. These both also drain into the Töss.
