Todd Strasser (born May 5, 1950 in New York City ) is an American writer . His stage name Morton Rhue is a play on words from the French words Mort (death -> Todd) and Rue (street -> Strasser) .

biography

He spent his youth on Long Island . After his school days, Morton Rhue first studied at a college in New York, which he soon left. A little later he lived in Europe , where he earned his living as a street musician . When he returned to the United States, he began studying literature at Beloit College in the US state of Wisconsin , where he graduated in 1974. He then worked for several years as a newspaper reporter for the Middleton Times Herald Record and as a copywriter for Compton Advertising .

At that time he was already writing short stories that were published in The New York Times , The New Yorker and Esquire . In 1978 his first novel entitled Angel Dust Blues was published.

In the USA he made a name for himself through numerous other publications as well as several novels for young people. In the German-speaking world, he was best known for the book Die Welle , which is part of the reading canon in many schools. In his books, Rhue takes up complex topics such as National Socialism , violence in schools or homelessness and works on them for young people.

Morton Rhue lived in New York City for 15 years with his wife and two children and has lived in Larchmont , New York for 25 years .
