Price description and categories

Based on the Pegasus project of the Mecklenburg Literature Society and the eponymous winged poet horse ( Pegasus ), the Neubrandenburg youth book jury named its youth book prize Lufti .

jury

The Lufti youth book jury works as part of the Pegasus project of the Mecklenburg Literature Society in a literary and cultural center for children and young people at Wiekhaus 21 in Neubrandenburg ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). The prize is decided exclusively by young jurors between the ages of 11 and 18, who meet weekly to discuss current youth books and organize their jury work independently.

Youth book publishers provide new publications from which each jury member can nominate a title for the current award round. Everyone reads every book in each prize round. After intensive discussion by the Luftis about the nominated titles, the winners are determined in a secret ballot using a points system. The written justification for the jury's decision is sent to the publishers and published on the Lufti homepage as well as in a press release. In addition to the assessment, the jury members also prepare book reviews for the titles they have read . These reading recommendations are then published regularly in the national literature supplement of the daily Nordkurier .

In cooperation with the Mecklenburg Literature Society, the regional library in Neubrandenburg, the local book trade and schools in the region, the jury members also organize public relations for the prize. They maintain contacts with the press and radio and design their own homepage.

From 2003 to 2008, the Lufti jury was part of the youth jury for the German Youth Literature Prize ( Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis ).
