Tola Shura Kitata (born June 9, 1996 ) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner .
Career
At the Shanghai Marathon in November 2015, Shura Kitata achieved third place in its premiere over the 42.195 km in 2:08:53 h. Two months later he finished second in the Xiamen Marathon 2016 in 2:10:20 h . Later in the year, he finished second in the Ottawa Marathon and second in the Istanbul Marathon .
In 2017, a third place in Xiamen was followed by a victory in the Rome Marathon in 2:07:28 h, where he missed the course record by a few seconds. In autumn he finished eighth in the Copenhagen half marathon and triumphed in 2:05:50 h in the Frankfurt marathon .
He started the 2018 season with a fourth place in the half marathon competition of the Houston Marathon . At the London Marathon , only Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge was beaten in a top-class field . At the end of the season he finished second in the New York City Marathon in 2:06:01 h, just two seconds behind his compatriot Lelisa Desisa .
He opened the 2019 season in January with a win in the half marathon race in the Houston Marathon.
